Jason Voorhees is a serial killer and the main antagonist of the Friday the 13th franchise. He appears as a posthumous character in the original Friday the 13th, the posthumous overarching antagonist of Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, the main antagonist of every other entry and Friday the 13th: The Game and the titular central antagonist of Freddy vs. Jason.

He is a deformed murderer who is known for wearing a hockey mask to cover his deformities and killing those who dare to step foot in Crystal Lake out of vengeance for his mother Pamela Voorhees whom he witnessed being decapitated. When he was a human, Jason was exceptionally durable and difficult to kill, but he could still feel pain and eventually was brought down by Tommy Jarvis , who continuously hacked away at him with his own machete. However, this would not be the end for years later, he'd be brought back from the dead by complete accident by Jarvis as an undead revenant which granted him supernatural abilities. Jason is also notable for using a machete as his preferred weapon with a close second being an axe, but he also has been known to use just whatever item he finds lying around and even his bare hands.

Personality[]

Jason is an enigmatic and foreboding figure, seldom exhibiting any characteristics outside of a burning desire to hunt. Jason is also utterly relentless with his prey, pursuing his desired quarry without ever backing down, not even allowing grievous bodily harm inflicted upon him to hinder his determination. Despite his crude and simple nature, he does experience intense emotions, though his behavior is more akin to a feral-minded beast defending it's territory than a cognitive vengeful human, as most of his victims are those who show up without him approving. Even if Crystal Lake were to change its name, he would stick to the stretch of land, and kill any trespassers without so much as a pang of remorse. While Jason is mentally ill, his mindset is completely unlike that of anyone else, and the only remotely human aspect of this unhinged man is his attachment to his mother. Jason blindly complies with her, as she was the only person to show any kindness towards him as a child. Therefore, those who understand this can use his love against her.

He is not exactly the brightest machete in the cabin, either, as he is easily manipulated by those who imitate his mother and depending on the movie he also suffers irrational aquaphobia. These weaknesses in particular were exploited by Freddy Krueger. Although he is lacking in a dazzling imagination, high level of ingenuity, and can be rather narrow-minded and dull, Jason is certainly no slouch, as he exhibits quick wits and resourcefulness when hunting his prey or fighing. His brand of intelligence is less a smart human plotting and scheming and more a very bright animal who can act unpredictably and catch it's prey off guard. Despite his lack of normal thought-processes, he does exhibit excellent stealth and cunning, as well as being a skilled master archer. Despite his practical knowledge, Jason can be slow at times, oblivious to the obvious, and failed to grasp the fact that he is himself immortal, believing that he can drown, and fearing water despite the fact that he is undead. This is shown when Freddy easily tricks him into thinking he was drowning in the real world.

Freddy's facade as his mother also fooled him. Interestingly, Jason despises seeing teenagers drinking, taking drugs, and he is especially disgusted by sex, presumably the reasons are these were what lead to his supposed drowning as a child. However, due to the fact that he does not even try to socialize, he may simply be misanthropic and reclusive, having no desire to assimilate himself into society. This mindset has undoubtedly spawned from all of the abuse that he was dealt with as a child. It also indicates that Jason might also kill people because he cannot relate to them despite his naive nature.
