The Gornaxis are the main antagonists of the 1957 American horror film The Monster That Challenged the World.
These gigantic gastropods were released from their underwater slumber by undersea earthquakes in the Salton Sea. Upon awakening, they rise to the surface and begin attacking the locals of a nearby Californian town.
Appearance
The Gornaxis resemble large caterpillars with two large eyes and two large mandibles. They have numerous stubby legs running down their bodies; said bodies end in large spiral snail shells.

Fate
One of the mollusks is killed after it is stabbed in the eye, several more are blown up with explosives, and one is shot to death by Navy personnel.
