Gozer, also known as Gozer the Gozerian and Gozer the Destructor, is the main antagonist of the 1984 American comedy-horror film Ghostbusters.

Gozer is a Sumerian deity who has traveled from dimension to dimension, wiping out their inhabitants when his followers gather sufficient ectoplasmic energy and summon him to do so.

Appearance

Gozer has no true form, or at least, none that is shown in the film. Gozer's humanoid form (played by Slavitza Jovan) resembles a pale, gaunt human woman with a white face, deep-set eyes, a black flat-top hairstyle, and countless transparent boils covering her body.

In his Destructor form, Gozer takes on the form of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, a fictional advertising mascot. Stay-Puft is a fat humanoid creature made of white marshmallow creme who wears a sailor hat with a red ribbon and a white collar with a blue stripe.

Powers and Abilities

Gozer possesses the following powers and abilities:

  • Weather manipulation
  • Shapeshifting
  • Near invulnerability
  • Henchman
  • Transdimensional travel

Fate

Gozer is destroyed when the Ghostbusters deliberately cross their proton streams into the transdimensional gateway, sealing it and cutting off Gozer's source of power.

Trivia

  • Despite the film being called Ghostbusters, Gozer is not a ghost of any kind.
  • In his humanoid form, Gozer was played by Yugoslavian model Slavitza Jovan.
