Imhotep is the main antagonist of the 1932 American horror film The Mummy and its 1999 remake.

A team of archeologists accidentally awakens an ancient mummified Egyptian priest, who proceeds to attempt to locate his deceased lover, whom he believes has been reincarnated.

Appearance

Imhotep is a tall, gaunt man with an emaciated frame and graying skin. His body is covered in filthy white wrappings covered in stains.

Fate

The scroll that brought Imhotep to life is destroyed in a fire, causing him to crumble into dust.

Trivia

  • Imhotep was played by Boris Karloff (who also played Frankenstein's Monster) in the 1932 film and by Arnold Vosloo in the 1999 film (and its sequels).
  • Imhotep was named after the ancient Egyptian polymath and architect of the same name.
