Moon Spiders are the primary antagonists in the 2011 film Apollo 18.
Appearance
The moon spiders vary in size and shape, but all are gray to match the moon’s color and texture. When dormant, they look like any other rock. However, when threatened, curious, or offensive, they sprout crab-like limbs and crawl to investigate.
Powers and Abilities
Moon Spiders possess the following powers and abilities:
- Speed-The moon spiders have been seen achieving inhuman speeds
- Electronic interference-When in the presence of electronics, the moon spiders may cause it to turn into static
- Necrosis-After infiltrating a human, the moon spider causes the area to become necrotic
Fate
After causing Ben to crash the LK into Johnny, it is assumed that the moon spiders died in the crash. While it was implied that the rocks that had been taken to earth on prior Apollo missions were in fact aliens, it is never explicitly stated.
Trivia
- It is not known what the moon spiders’ diet is, but from the looks of the dead cosmonaut that Ben and Nate found, it is likely that the spiders ate his blood
- It’s likely they originated on an asteroid, as the crater in which Ben and Nate primarily found it (the landing site of the LK) is specified by the astronauts as an impact crater.
