Reapers are the planetary human culling exterminators in the movie Elevation (2024). Three years prior to the events of the film, mysterious apex predators called Reapers emerged from sinkholes underground and exterminated humanity, with 95% killed in the first month. Survivors live in pocketed communities 8,000 feet or more above sea level — elevations that the creatures do not venture into.

A single father and two women venture from the safety of their homes to face monstrous creatures to save the life of a young boy.

Appearance

Reapers are large black predators with six legs. They possess large heads with shield-like crests on the back and powerful jaws filled with needle-like teeth. These crests have several large red organs that emit light, creating the impression of glowing red eyes. They also have four long whip-like tentacles flowing behind them in addition to a long tail.

Powers and Abilities

Reapers possess the following powers and abilities:

  • Targeting and pursuit
  • Impervious to gunfire
  • Swarming attack
  • Bio-probe
  • Piercing attack
  • Blitzing bull-run attack
  • Damage recovery
  • Intelligent quarry pursuit tactics
  • Apex predators
  • High bio-electromagnetic pulses

Fate

  • A couple reapers are killed in the film but most of them survive the events of the movie.
  • The magnesium/cobalt-laced bullets cause them to explode from internal combustion upon impact.

Trivia

  • They realize that the Reapers are not biological but machines built using advanced alien technology.
  • The Elevation post-credits scene shows Will and Nina looking up into the sky, where meteors are barreling toward Earth. It's unclear exactly what this means, but given the context of the Reapers from the film, it seems implied that a new threat is on its way.
  • Budget: $18 million / Box Office: $3.3 million
  • Nina explains that the Reapers don't eat or sleep, theorizing that they are not biological creatures.
