Reptile (Syzoth) is a minor antagonist in the 2021 and 1995 films, Mortal Kombat. Reptile makes an appearance in the 2021 film, although his name is changed to "Syzoth", as a minion of Shang Tsung who attacks the main characters' hideout.

Appearance

Reptile (Syzoth) is primarily bipedal. Its appearance resembles features from both living and extinct reptiles. Mostly greenish in color it has a double row of dorsal spikes which merge into a single row of dorsal tail spikes on its exceptionally long tail. It has a long forked tongue, protruding brow, binocular forward facing predatorial eyes and a mouthful of sharp teeth. Its limbs end with hands and feet possessing very sharp claws. While the 1995 version looks cartoonish, the 2021 version appears more realistic.

Powers and Abilities

Reptile (Syzoth) possesses the following powers and abilities:

  • Invisibility
  • Spits highly corrosive acid
  • Agility and Stealth

Fate

Reptile (Syzoth) battles Kano who kills him by ripping his heart out.

Trivia

  • Although Reptile's default look in most Mortal Kombat games is that of a humanoid ninja (with varying degrees of reptilian features), this film probably based his appearance on that from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (2002), which is the most lizard-like he has ever been, complete with a snout and a tail.
  • Reptile is invisible at first, and his saliva is highly acidic and corrosive; in the games, Reptile can spit acid as a fighting move, as well as becoming invisible.
  • Goro, Kano, Liu Kang, Raiden, Reptile, Scorpion, Shang Tsung, Sonya and Sub-Zero debuted in Mortal Kombat (1992).
  • Frank Welker was uncredited as the voice of the 1995 Reptile.
  • Reptile was originally not included in the 1995 movie but was added in response to focus groups being unimpressed with the amount of fighting in the film. Robin Shou and Paul W.S. Anderson noted that neither knew what the 1995 Reptile's lizard form would look like until after filming, making the pre-fight sequence difficult to shoot.
  • In the 1995 movie when Reptile in his chameleon creature form takes over the body of an Outworld statue and rises as a green ninja, you can hear (very quietly) a voice say "Reptile".
