Takafumi Udo 'The One'

Takafumi Udo 'The One' is the kaiju threat in the film Ultraman: The Next (2004).

Shunichi Maki is a fighter pilot with the Japan Self Defense Forces (JSDF) on what he intends to be his final day with the JSDF. Maki has decided to give up his love for flying high powered jets in order to devote more time to his family. A strange UFO has been sighted on a direct course for Tokyo. As he nears the object, Maki can just barely make out its form, a ball of glowing red plasma streaking through the upper atmosphere at phenomenal speed. Observers at the JSDF base watch their radar screens in horror as Maki’s jet collides with the UFO. Somehow, he survives.

Maki was not the first to mysteriously survive a deadly crash with a mysterious UFO. Only a week earlier another soldier named Takafumi Udo experienced the very same thing. But in the previous case, after the crash soldier`s body began to undergo bizarre changes. Udo grew in size and strength, eventually mutating into a huge and powerful monster.

The first beast has been code named “The One.” “And what code name do you have for me?” Maki shouts at the woman in black. Sara hesitates for a moment, then says quietly, “The Next.” The monster soon makes its appearance. As it begins to try and rip the heavy wrought iron door off of its hinges the JDSF Forces open fire on the beast. The monster is momentarily distracted. It begins to call lizards to itself by some unknown power, absorbing them into itself and mutating, growing larger and more menacing. The reptilian alien beast towers nearly ten meters (30 feet) tall. Its massive snake-like tail can be used as a whip of incredible force and its sinister fangs are capable of tearing a human being to shreds.

Soon enough there are disturbing reports from the Shinjuku district in the heart of downtown Tokyo. A poisonous gas has been detected and the authorities suspect a terrorist threat. Maki knows better. The One has returned. Absorbing the bodies of thousands of sewer rats, The monster known as The One becomes even larger and more powerful. Only now it has a terrible atomic breath ray. Calling upon thousands of ravens it mutates into its final form...WITH WINGS!

  • Shunichi Maki (真木 舜一) / Ultraman the Next (ウルトラマン・ザ・ネクスト): Played by Tetsuya Bessho.

Appearance

Takafumi Udo 'The One' has 5 forms.

  • The human, [Takafumi Udo], has done the least absorbing of all other forms. It is meeker than other forms appearing as a normal person but mutated with scaly and spiky skin, fangs for teeth and sporting claws, making it a dangerous foe regardless.
  • The Beast [1st form] [Idolovia] is bigger, with a more reptilian appearance and form and gaining a tail, standing a foot taller than the average person. It still retains a human-shaped head and eyes. It was achieved after absorbing sea creatures, hence its motif of gills, tentacles and sea anemone.
  • Lizard-Beast Kaiju [2nd form], After absorbing more lizards the One achieved a new form, [Reptilia]. It has fewer human features and sports a blue and flesh color scheme.
  • Rat-Beast Kaiju [3rd form] [Beelzebua] replaces the previous color scheme with a dark brown color. It was achieved by absorbing rats. It was around fifty meters tall with rat heads on its shoulders and twin blades on its arms. It can now spit blue plasma balls.
  • The One (Flying Bird-Rat-Lizard-Beast)[Final Form] Like the previous form, after absorbing crows, the rat heads were replaced by crows and the lower back spikes were turned into wings which it used to fly, gaining the name [Beelzebua-Korone]

Takafumi Udo 'The One' possess the following powers and abilities:

Fate

Takafumi Udo 'The One' is hit with Ultraman's Arm Beam and is slowly disintegrated, dispersing its particles into the atmosphere.

Trivia

  • Ultraman, mysterious gigantic being from deep space, his origins unidentified, his intentions unknown, his powers seemingly unlimited.
  • Ultraman was created in 1966 by Eiji Tsuburaya. Before founding Tsuburaya Productions in 1963, Eiji Tsuburaya was already world famous as the special effects director of the classic Godzilla movies of the 1950’s and 60’s.
  • Directed by Kazuya Konaka and produced by Tsuburaya Productions.
  • Part of the "Ultra N Project", a three-phase experiment aimed to reinvent the franchise for an older audience
  • The One is the first member of the Space Beasts to arrive on Earth, it possess onto a host and consumes creatures to grow more powerful
  • Despite its defeat, Its cells would spread and form the basis of the Space Beasts fought by humanity
  • Originally an unknown, unseen form before his merger with Takafumi Udo. The military described it simply as a blue light. Its appearance was later portrayed in the Ultraman Nexus Booklet that came with the DVD.
  • After getting his wings sliced off by the Next, the One was forced into this imperfect Berezebua form that had no additional animal heads on its shoulders. It only appeared briefly before being finished off by the Next's Evol-Ray Schtrom.
